New Orleans songwriter Alex Pianovich, under the moniker Greazy Alice, returns with his evocative new single Circles, taken from his forthcoming EP of the same name (out 25th November on Loose). Drawing on the cycles of life, the track explores themes of loss, remembrance, and continuity with Pianovich’s signature mix of reflection and subtle wit. Recorded directly to 1-inch reel-to-reel tape, the performance captures the nuanced interplay of the band while conveying a warmth that balances the song’s melancholic subject matter. On the new track Pianovich says: “Wrote this one after a fella who was a regular at the bar I was part owner of died unexpectedly (at least as unexpectedly as any bar regular can die, it’s always kinda not surprising I guess). We made an altar in his honor at the end of the bar and people slowly added things to it until a few days later someone else died so they got rid of his crap and did it all over for somebody else.” The track builds on the recognition garnered from the band’s previous EP - after a feature in Uncut Magazine - and showcases Pianovich’s unique talents in crafting fine songs that are full of character and beautifully simple. This is the second offering from the band on Loose with a full length album due for release late January.
